On Corsica’s northeast coast, this port started as a Genoese outpost, and the 15th century citadel still looks out over the harbor. Today it attract tourists, due to its proximity to the famous Patrimonio vineyards, which produce Corsica’s best wines, particularly muscats and to Saleccia Beach, considered one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. Inland, the rugged maquis of the Agriate Desert is scenic, but forbidding.
