In complete contrast, you will also see Nyhavn. The word means New Harbor, but the reality is that this colorful and lively waterfront district dates back more than 500 years. Its gabled houses are now host to sidewalk cafés and popular bars. Fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen lived at three different addresses along the Nyhavn canal. Don’t miss nearby the statue that was inspired by Andersen’s tale, the Little Mermaid—today, at 103 years old, she is still Copenhagen’s beloved little girl. Next up is a visit to Tivoli Gardens—a famous amusement park and pleasure garden in the heart Copenhagen. The park opened in 1843 and is one of the oldest amusement parks to survive intact to the present day. The highlight of your visit will be a stop at the Treasury, which holds the Danish Crown Jewels and Crown Regalia, gleaming with gold, diamonds and precious stones.
