Platis Gialos, Nisos Sifnos, Greece
Sifnos is in the Cyclades, and has all the charm of its more famous, or notorious, sisters, but enjoys a more unspoiled atmosphere. Platis Gialos harbor is graced by a beach, said to be the longest in the Cyclades, where families love to come and play in the sea and sand. Overlooking the beach is the Panagia tou Vounou, one of 365 churches on the island. These range from small chapels maintained by single families to the famous Chrissopigi monastery dramatically set on a peninsula jutting into the clear sea. The island capital, Apollonia, offers numerous small, charming shops, galleries and eating establishments. Other popular beaches include Kamares and Vathi.
