Cruise by Zodiac among the brash ice calved from Hubbard Glacier. Crevassed and contorted as it grinds steadily across the bedrock below, Hubbard Glacier stands in stark contrast to most glaciers around the world — it is advancing (growing) rather than retreating. Listen for the thunderous roar of fresh icebergs calving off its face, and scan the water as the Ventures naturalist and Zodiac driver point out the many marine species feeding in these nutrient-rich waters.
Please note: Tour departs from and returns to the ship. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Bring binoculars. Wear sunglasses and biodegradable sunscreen; bring insect repellent. There are steps to negotiate when (dis)embarking the Zodiac, with assistance offered. Tour generally operates rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Minimum age is 6 years. Wildlife sightings and glacier calving activity are likely but are not guaranteed.
