This trek is a two-hour hike through a glacial icescape.
Take off from Juneau by helicopter and soar over the Juneau Ice Field to the glacier.
Upon landing, listen to your guide, as there is an early emphasis on learning the proper use of the mountaineering gear (rainproof and windproof outerwear, gloves, boots, ice axe, crampons, harness, helmet) and understanding the glacier features and hazards so that remote areas of the glacier can be accessed during the trek.
This trek is both adventurous and informative — no prior experience is required but participants must be able to keep up with the group.
Please note: Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. This tour can be canceled without penalty on the day your voyage commences; cancellations thereafter are non-refundable. Participants must be in good physical condition and able to walk two miles over varied terrain, although two miles may not be covered on this tour. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, etc) cannot be accommodated on the transportation. The trek includes more physical activity than the Glacier Walkabout, interspersed with detailed explanations of the glacial environment and surrounding area. Participants should be comfortable hiking for two hours over uneven and sometimes steep terrain. Minimum age is 12 years. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Guests weighing 250 lbs or more (fully clothed) pay an additional surcharge over the published fare. Guests' weights will be verified during check-in. The tour operator endeavors to be discreet, but individual circumstances may not allow for complete privacy. Seating is determined by the weight and balance of the aircraft. The tour operator will do their bests to keep groups together but may not be possible. Bags cannot be taken on the flight; a secure location is provided at the heliport for storing personal items. iPads, iPad minis, tablets, drones and selfie sticks or other extendable items are not permitted.
