Our time in Scoresbysund is entirely Expedition-focused, with no set itinerary or program. Seabourn is thrilled to offer a variety of experiences based on the best conditions for exploring and for potential wildlife sightings. Options may include:
Zodiac Cruises
Join the Expedition team while they pilot the Zodiacs through a tableau of huge icebergs, tidewater glaciers and rich wildlife. Here, the marine life depends on ice for both food and habitat. A chance encounter with an arctic fox, muskox or interesting bird species is a very real possibility.
Hiking & Walks
Hike or walk with the Expedition team to explore the beautiful, tundra-covered landscape around Scoresbysund. Explore the tiny, fragile plant communities that cling tenaciously to life in this inhospitable environment and learn about the adaptations that allow them to do so. Admire colorful rock formations and landscapes sculpted by frost and water over time.
Wildlife Viewing
Arctic wildlife is magical to encounter, and your Expedition team will expertly identify and interpret numerous species. Whether it is a polar bear seen in the distance, a group of walruses hauled out on an ice floe, bearded seals patrolling an icy bay, or one of several small whale species, we will never pursue wildlife or allow our encounters to impact them adversely. Bear Guards carefully monitor all our walks for safety and to mitigate unnecessary stress on land-based wildlife.
Historic Remains
Human endeavors in the Arctic have left little trace. At this latitude, nature swiftly reclaims what is hers. Our knowledgeable Expedition team helps you to identify scant remnants of the Thule people who hunted marine mammals across Canada, and the Inuit people who came later. They paint a vivid picture of life, both then and now, in this land of stark isolation.
Please note: Included Expeditions cannot be booked in advance. The ship's Expedition team will communicate finalized content and departure information. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Life jackets are provided and must be worn. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
