Welcome to Yeosu, an immersive journey into South Korea’s coastal charm. Here vibrant markets, historical landmarks and breathtaking views combine to offer a delightful blend of culture, natural beauty, and maritime allure.
First you will visit Jinnamgwan Hall, a national treasure standing as one of the largest wood structures in the country. With its architectural elegance and significance, it will give you a glimpse into the rich history of the Joseon Dynasty. At the entrance there is a small museum and the famous Yeosu Stone Statue.
Next, stop by Yi Sun-shin Plaza, a majestic tribute to Admiral Yi Sun-shin, featuring a grand statue and surrounding historical exhibits that honor his naval legacy and contributions. Located on the Jungang-dong seaside, you can see beautiful views of the Yeosu seaside.
Continue along to Yeosu Fish Market for a guided tour. The market is lined with small shops and restaurants serving dishes using fresh seafood caught from the southern coast. To maintain the freshness of the live fish, the aquariums installed at each store use filtered and sterilized seawater, which is drawn off the coast near Dolsandaegyo Bridge.
Then, you’ll take a ride on the Yeosu Cable Car. It is the first of its kind in Korea, connecting Dolsan Island and the mainland over the ocean. You’ll be able to observe the ocean below your feet, experiencing the thrill of being suspended in mid-air through the transparent flooring.
Finally, you’ll stop at the magnificent Yeosu Sky Tower, where you will go up to see breathtaking panoramic views of the glittering coastline, islands, and the azure waters of the South Sea. Following the Daejeon Expo in 1993, the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea was the nation’s second expo to be recognized by the Bureau of International Exhibitions. The expo’s seaside Yeosu City venue highlights the focus of the expo: the ocean and its value as a natural resource. The Sky Tower was the highest structure at the Expo site (73 meters high). Created from a pair of abandoned silos, it will be left permanently at the Expo site as a cultural landmark of the Yeosu Expo.
Please note: As of August, 2023, Jinnamgwan is under construction. If it will be under construction during the call, exclusive access of the construction site will be given to Seabourn guests for the tour.
