Step back in time and uncover the remarkable story of South Australia's copper-mining heritage on a visit to historic Moonta Mines.
Following your transfer from Wallaroo, join a guided tour of the former mining site and explore the fascinating Elder Line of Lode. As you walk amongst the preserved remnants of this once-thriving operation, your guide will share stories of the miners and communities who helped shape the region. Discover significant landmarks including Hughes Chimney, Taylors Shaft and Richmans Enginehouse, each offering a glimpse into Moonta's rich industrial past.
For a different perspective, climb the tailings heap and enjoy panoramic views across the historic mine site and surrounding countryside. This elevated vantage point provides an excellent opportunity for photographs and a greater appreciation of the scale of the former mining operations.
Following the guided tour, enjoy free time at the Moonta Mines Museum, where exhibits, artefacts and displays reveal more about the lives of the miners and the development of one of South Australia's most important copper-mining communities.
Your heritage experience continues aboard the historic Moonta Mines Tourist Train. Relax as the train travels through the former mining area, offering an enjoyable and informative look at this unique heritage landscape before returning to the Visitors Centre for your transfer back to Wallaroo.
