This spectacular hiking adventure crosses the center of Siglufjörður — a picturesque town that was the place to be during the early 20th-century herring boom.
Your destination is the charming Hvanneyrarskál Valley in Siglufjörður's hinterland, which offers wonderful views into town and across the fjord. With an elevation gain of about 650 feet (200 m), the pace is moderate, and there are plenty of stops along the way.
As you walk, your guide will discuss the town's history, its flora and fauna, the purpose of avalanche guards, and many other topics.
Please note: Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, gravel, rocks, grass, and steps. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Bring bottled water. Minimum age is 12 years. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Participants must be fit and healthy. Construction work is ongoing in the mountains above Siglufjörður; the route may be adapted if required, and an equivalent hike of similar length and difficulty will be completed. Tour requires hiking a total of approximately 3 miles (5 km).
