Depart the pier in Alter do Chão for a one and a half hour drive (possibly longer) through the outer districts of Pindobal and Belterra.
Your destination is the Tapajós National Forest -- a section of the Brazilian Amazon that is a major resource of tropical hardwoods. The Tapajós National Forest covers an area of 1,482,660 acres and is protected by federal law.
Leave your transportation to walk in the forest. A two-hour hike showcases the many species that grow here and 'jungle men' accompany you to help you identify the flora and fauna. Brazil nut and rubber trees grow prodigiously here among other fascinating species.
Please note: Minimum age is 12 years. Drive times vary and are dependent on traffic conditions. Travel time can take between 1 hour to 2 hours.Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Wear light clothing, including trousers, a long-sleeved shirt and a hat. Bring insect repellent and binoculars. Bring bottled water. Not suitable for pregnant women or for guests with heart, neck or back conditions. Tour operates subject to meeting a minimum number of participants.
