Discover the highlights of vibrant, captivating Rio with a drive to one of the world's most famous landmarks—the massive granite cone at the mouth of Guanabara Bay known as Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Discover the highlights of vibrant, captivating Rio with a drive to one of the world's most famous landmarks—the massive granite cone at the mouth of Guanabara Bay known as Sugar Loaf Mountain.Begin with a panoramic tour through the heart of downtown, where colonial Rio meets modern skyscrapers. Stop at the modern Cathedral of Rio for a visit. Watch for the 18th-century Candelaria Church, built in time for Brazil’s independence. In breathtaking contrast you will also see the modern Petrobras building and Rio's aqueduct, built in the 18th century - the latter is now used to connect the downtown area with the lovely Santa Teresa residential area.
From Flamengo Park, you will have an outstanding view of Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Leave your coach here and walk up to the staging area to board the cable car that climbs up to Sugar Loaf's summit. The first stage of the ride takes you to Urca Hill. Follow the path on foot here that leads to second stage of the cable car. You may opt to remain and enjoy the vista from Urca Hill or continue the exciting ascent to the 1,200-foot-high summit. The views of Rio below and the striking statue of Christ the Redeemer atop nearby Corcovado are simply stunning. Begin the descent to meet your motor coach, waiting at the bottom, for the return drive to the ship.
Please note: You can reach the summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain in two stages. With the fast passes provided by Seabourn, you can skip the main lines for both cable cars, which means you can also bypass the line for the second cable car that will take you to the top of the mountain. Please note, even with the fast passes there is still expected to be 10-to-15-minute wait. There is no guarantee offered about visibility or views on any day, as weather and atmospheric conditions vary. To fully participate requires leisurely walking over primarily even surfaces. This excursion is not advisable for guests with mobility issues or guests in wheelchairs.
