Board your motorcoach and travel along the scenic northeastern coastline toward Akaka Falls State Park, passing tropical landscapes and coastal vistas along the way. Upon arrival, enjoy a walk along the park's paved loop trail, which winds through a lush rainforest filled with giant ferns, bamboo groves, and colorful tropical vegetation. Along the trail, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Akaka Falls, where Kolekole Stream plunges an impressive 442 feet into a deep, verdant gorge below, making it one of Hawaii's most iconic waterfalls.
After your visit, reboard your vehicle and continue along the scenic Hamakua Coast, enjoying beautiful views of Onomea Bay before returning toward Hilo.
Your next stop is Rainbow Falls, one of the island's most photographed natural attractions. Here, the Wailuku River cascades 100 feet over a lava cliff into a tranquil pool below. On sunny mornings, colorful rainbows often appear in the mist, giving the falls their name. Surrounded by tropical foliage, including wild ginger, orchids, and bamboo, this picturesque setting offers excellent photo opportunities and a chance to appreciate the island's natural beauty.
Before returning to the ship, enjoy free time in downtown Hilo to browse local shops featuring Hawaiian favorites such as Kona coffee, macadamia nuts, island-made crafts, and souvenirs.
