Happy smiles welcome you aboard a modern, comfortable boat for a narrated cruise along Lynn Canal — North America's deepest fjord. Stunning mountain and marine scenery is home to whales, porpoises, and bald eagles.
Forty-five minutes in, you'll land at Eldred Rock to view Alaska's oldest lighthouse. Here, participants are split into two guided groups, taking it in turns to explore the lighthouse grounds, including the boathouse, helipad, workshop, waterfall and wildlife viewpoints, and then to enter the restored lighthouse and visit its museum and historic lens room. Four guests at a time enter the lens room for an up-close experience.
Reboard the boat and enjoy a light local snack as you cruise back toward Haines. Along the way, your skipper pauses at a harbor seal rookery and sea lion haul-out (conditions permitting), cascading waterfalls and dramatic coastal cliffs.
Your adventure concludes back at Port Chilkoot in Haines.
Please note: Each guest has the option to become a member of the Eldred Rock Lighthouse Restoration Association, helping preserve this historic landmark for future generations. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Maximum weight is 300 lbs. Minimum age is 7 years. Terrain includes a marine ramp from the pier to the boat, which can be very steep at low tide, even and uneven surfaces that are slippery when wet, gravel, grass, and many steps.
