Your journey begins with a narrated tour of downtown Juneau to view many of the city's highlights.
A panoramic drive takes you out to the Mendenhall Valley — home of the mighty Mendenhall Glacier. Your guide points out many of the attractions in the glacier area before you are set loose for 1¾ hours of free time. The area boasts several self-guided trails showcasing the role the glacier had in carving the landscape. Each trail offers a different view of the glacier through trees or along the shores of Mendenhall Lake. The Nugget Falls Trail leads to the base of a long, glacier-fed waterfall and offers the closest views of Mendenhall Glacier. Meander through the Tongass National Forest on the Moraine Ecology Trail. The Steep Creek Trail offers multiple views of wild sockeye salmon during the mid- to late-summer months.
Scenic Photo Point and the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center are well worth a visit.
Please note: This tour operates under a Special Use Permit issued by the US Forest Service. Due to occasional bear activity, food consumption is prohibited in the Mendenhall Glacier area. This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair (the tour operator suggests bringing a companion to assist if needed, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs). Only non-ambulatory guests using a wheelchair that requires specific accommodations, such as a lift/ramp and wheelchair anchor on the transportation, can book this tour, as it ensures accessible transportation; guests using a collapsible wheelchair and able to board the coach via the steps must book Mendenhall Glacier Explorer (Companion). Companions can book the same tour under the title Mendenhall Glacier Explorer (Companion). The tour route avoids stairs; however, the nature of access may differ from the standards you are familiar with at home. Accessible bathrooms with wide doors are available along the tour route. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp is used for transportation. The number of accessible vehicles available is extremely limited; make your accessible shore excursion reservations as far in advance as possible. Guests requiring accessible transportation, please complete the Special Services form at https://www.seabourn.com/en/us/about/accessibility; this will ensure that suitable transportation is in place for your tour.
