First, you will visit Motoise Kono Shrine, located on the northern side of Amanohashidate. This shrine is dedicated to a local goddess of agriculture and the sun goddess Amaterasu, and is known for its architecture that preserves Japan’s oldest shrine-building style. You can observe traditional design elements shared with the Ise Grand Shrine, such as the roof logs and decorative crossbeams. The grounds also feature a suikinkutsu, a resonant water harp that echoes with the sound of dripping water. Next, you will take a cable car to Kasamatsu Park, where you can enjoy an elevated view of Amanohashidate, the narrow sandbar lined with pine trees. This spot has long been known for the unique tradition of viewing the landscape upside down by bending over and looking through your legs. Afterward, you will join the Ine Bay Cruise, a 25-minute sailing experience that allows you to see the rows of funaya—traditional boathouses— from the water. These distinctive structures feature a boat garage on the first floor and living quarters on the second, and many are still used in daily life today. Following the cruise, you will enjoy the Ine Town Stroll (inside funaya), walking through an area where about 230 funaya remain. You will also step inside one of the boathouses to observe the unique lifestyle of a community that has long lived in harmony with the sea.
