Today's transformative experience is all about Dominica as a thrilling playground for aquatic adventurers. The island's rugged mountainous landscape boasts an abundance of natural wonders — rivers, waterfalls, lakes and valleys — all ripe for exploring.
Begin your day with a panoramic drive into the island's interior. Leave the coach for an exhilarating seven-minute nature trail hike through the rainforest, where you will encounter Trafalgar Falls. This site encompasses two marvelous waterfalls; the locals have dubbed them the Mother Falls and Father Falls. They cascade down verdant cliffs surrounded by tropical foliage — a slice of raw power among a thousand shades of green.
The Layou River is Dominica's longest waterway. At a river-tubing launch site, listen to a safety briefing, put on a life vest, grab a modified inner tube, and hop into the river. Float down, gently spinning and swirling in the current, taking in the changing scenery at every turn.
Enjoy a popular Dominican pastime — river bathing in clear, freshwater rivers winding through lush rainforests. This serene and rejuvenating experience is a cooling retreat and a tranquil escape.
Back on land, refreshments are served, including rum punch and an authentic local snack.
Please note: Minimum age is 8 years. Tour operates weather, rainfall and river conditions permitting. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. The route is winding. Guests who are prone to motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication.
