Don’t miss this great opportunity to visit the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, El Yunque National Rainforest. Board your air-conditioned bus at the pier and head out with your tour guide to the rainforest. An approximate 55-minute drive will bring you to enjoy the panoramic view of the tropical woodland with vast variety of flora and crystalline waterfalls that spread over hills and valleys. You’ll briefly pass by a one-of-a-kind, 100 feet waterfall - Coca’s Waterfall of volcanic rock – a great place to snap a quick photo.
Next, explore, discover, and connect at El Portal Visitor Center which reopened in January 2022 after being damaged by hurricanes. The facility offers information, trails, exhibits, a store, restaurant, and a theater. The National Park Services notes that “…the sustainable and open architecture visually connects to the surrounding forest and incorporates elements of artwork by local artists in the design”. You will have the opportunity to spot the endangered Puerto Rican parrot, the Amazona vittata, and learn about efforts made to recover this species.
At the Observation Tower, be mesmerized by this beautiful view where the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea unites and enjoy the view of the canopies of the rainforest. Head back to your coach and your ship.
