Depart Holyhead and travel across the island of Anglesey to the Menai Strait with its wooded banks separating the island from the mainland of North Wales. The narrow Strait can be treacherous, and the tidal currents are among the fiercest in the British Isles.
Crossing Britannia Bridge, view Telford’s graceful suspension bridge. The Menai Bridge was completed in 1826 and spans the Menai Strait carrying the Holyhead road high above the water.
Enjoy stunning coastal views travelling past the resort towns of North Wales towards Conwy in its setting between the wide Cinwy Estuary and Snowdonia’s foothills.
Your destination is Bodnant Garden, situated above the river Conwy, with stunning views across Snowdonia. Begun in 1875, Bodnant Garden is the creation of four generations of Aberconways and features huge Italianate terraces and formal lawns on its upper level, with a wooded valley, stream and wild garden below. There are dramatic colors throughout the summer, with herbaceous borders, roses, hydrangeas, water lilies and clematis delight.
Following your guided walk in the garden enjoy some time at your leisure to explore further at your own pace, before re-joining your coach for the scenic return drive to Holyhead.
Please note:
The gardens consist of flat and sloped areas, some of which are steep in places with numerous
steps. There are gravelled, grassed and old pathways with steps leading to the lower levels of the
garden and some pathways may have exposed tree roots. Guided 45-minute walking tour of the garden, the remainder of
the visit is at leisure.
