Journey to the enigmatic Stonehenge, a timeless marvel shrouded in mystery. This World Heritage Site, nestled on the Salisbury Plains of Wiltshire, stands as the world's most famous stone circle, captivating imaginations for centuries.
Dating back to ancient times, its origins rival the grandeur of the Pyramids, yet its purpose remains elusive. Was it the work of Druids, Greeks, Phoenicians, or even Atlanteans? Speculation abounds, from theories of human sacrifice to celestial observation.
Today's visitors behold the awe-inspiring remnants of monuments erected between 3000 and 1000 BC. Marvel at the engineering prowess of the trilithons, massive stone structures crafted with primitive tools. These doorframe-like arrangements, with stones aligned to mark solstices, evoke a sense of wonder and intrigue.
Witness the spectacle of Stonehenge, where the sun's rays align with precision during solstices, illuminating its central Heel Stone. Experience the magic of this ancient site, where mystery and history converge in a truly unforgettable journey.
Journey through the splendid English countryside before arriving pier side to re board your ship.
Please note: A new Visitor Centre opened in 2013 which includes a high-quality exhibition and archaeological gallery and a shuttle bus system to the stones. The shuttle bus takes approx. 10 minutes and goes all the way to the stones. Individual visitors can choose to disembark half-way and walk to the stone circle if they prefer. Shuttles should run on location every few minutes according to requirements on the day and can carry 60 people per shuttle vehicle. Comfortable walking shoes and waterproof layers are recommended.
