Riga was a major center of the Hanseatic League, deriving its prosperity in the 13th–15th centuries from trade with Central and Eastern Europe. It is widely recognized that Riga has the finest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe.
Start your day with a leisurely drive along the Boulevards of Riga, where sites range from the 14th-century Riga Castle to Alberta Street, considered the epitome of Art Nouveau architecture in Riga. Set out with your guide on a 45-minute walk to admire the architecture and learn some fascinating history as you stroll the cobblestone streets.
Back on the coach, continue to the Old Town of Riga. Stop at the National Opera House, one of the most beautiful opera buildings in Europe. Nearby stands the Freedom Monument, a symbol of the determination of the Latvian people in their fight for Independence.
In the heart of Old Riga, see the Dome Cathedral and the famous Riga Stock Exchange building. Walk past some of the city's most famous architectural monuments, including the 13th-century St Peter's Church, medieval dwelling houses — the Three Brothers — and St Jacob's Church.
