Your first stop is at the Selarón Steps -- a colorful landmark named after its creator, Chilean painter and sculptor Jorge Selarón. Before 1990, this was just an ordinary set of steps in a poor neighborhood. Selarón devoted more than 20 years of his life to converting these stairs into a masterpiece. What do you think?
Next, you'll head to a juice bar in the buzzing Leblon neighborhood to sample one of Brazil's signature flavors -- açaí. The açaí berry comes from a palm tree that grows in Central and South America. People native to the Amazon region have been using açaí for its health benefits for centuries. This superfood contains more antioxidants than any other berry. You'll also taste tapioca in Brazilian-style stuffed pancakes made from the crushed root of the cassava plant.
After a panoramic drive by some of Rio's most famous beaches -- Leblon, Ipanema, and Copacabana -- you'll stop at a beach kiosk and try the renowned caipirinha -- a classic cocktail made with sugarcane liquor, smashed lime and sugar; what's not to love? You'll also sample appetizers such as fried empanadas and french fries.
Your next stop is at Flamengo Park. Sip chilled local soda "Guarana" and take in the unforgettable view of Sugarloaf Mountain and Corovado.
At Mauá, you have the unenviable task of choosing between two great museums -- the Museum of Tomorrow or the Rio Art Museum. Whichever you visit, you will find the exhibits fascinating and different -- a breath of fresh air.
