Begin with a motor coach drive to the Nanshan Cultural Resort, 24 miles southwest of Sanya City in Hainan Province. The beauty of Nanshan Mountain makes this a principal eco-tourism zone. The area also boasts a profound Buddhist influence on the surrounding culture and features three theme parks—Buddhism Culture Park, Blessing & Longevity Park, and Hainan Custom Culture Park.
First, you will explore the Nanshan Temple. It is the most famous Buddhist temple in Hainan Province, is encircled by mountains and faces the South China Sea. Blessing & Longevity Park embodies the essence of Chinese culture, conveying an atmosphere of peace and fortune.
At lunch you will sample local Chinese-style vegetarian food of Nanshan Temple. The many nutritious dishes include some made of wild fungus, konjak, and bean products.
This afternoon visit the Guanyin Statue of Hainan, a 350-foot tall statue of the bodhisattva Guan Yin. The statue has three aspects—one side faces inland and the other two face the South China Sea, to represent blessing and protection by Guan Yin of China and the whole world. One aspect depicts Guan Yin cradling a sutra in the left hand and gesturing the Vitarka Mudra with the right, the second features her palms crossed, holding a string of prayer beads, and the third holding a lotus. The mantra Om mani padme hum is written in Tibetan script around each aspect’s halo. This is the third-tallest statue in the world.
You will also stop at the Pearl Culture Museum to learn about the process of cultivating this precious ornament.
End your tour with a drive back to the ship.
