Travel the main road to Ballylickey, turning north for the remote scenic route to the serene and beautiful Gougane Barra.
Drive through the 980-acre Forest Park. Natural vegetation abounds, the slopes are bedecked with a variety of grasses, and rock faces are covered with colorful lichens.
You'll stop at the Gougane Barra Hotel to enjoy a delicious Irish Coffee. Take in the view -- brooding cliffs rise above the dark waters of the lake. A tiny island in the lake is connected to the mainland by causeway. The island was once home to the hermitage of St Finbarr, Patron Saint of Cork. Although nothing remains today of the monastery, there is an 18th-century church that attracts pilgrims. Enjoy some free time to cross the causeway to visit and photograph the tiny island church of St Finbarr's Oratory.
Please note: Suitable for guests with mobility limitations; however, all participants must be able to climb the steps to board the coach.
