Discover the cultural heart of Ambon on an enriching journey through history, tradition, and local life. Begin with a visit to the serene Commonwealth War Cemetery, a moving tribute set among towering tropical trees. Continue to Suli Village and Sopapei Beach, where you'll witness the remarkable Crazy Bamboo performance, a centuries-old tradition steeped in local folklore.
A short walk leads to Lorihua's crystal-clear spring, home to the island's legendary sacred eels. Local villagers tempt these elusive creatures from their hiding places with boiled eggs, and according to tradition, a sighting brings good fortune. Your exploration continues in Amarumatena Hamlet, where you'll gain insight into Ambon's agricultural heritage, viewing spice plants, tropical fruits, and the sago palms that provide a staple food for local communities. Conclude with a scenic stop at the Martha Christina Tiahahu Monument, where panoramic views offer a memorable perspective of Ambon before returning to the ship.
Please Note:
This tour involves approximately 20 minutes of easy to moderate walking, including uneven paths near Lorihua Spring and village areas. Guests should be prepared for hot and humid tropical conditions and are encouraged to wear lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and insect repellent. Bottled water is provided onboard the vehicle. Transportation is by non-air-conditioned coach, and vehicles are not equipped with an onboard public address system. Restroom facilities during the tour are available but are very basic in nature. Traffic in and around Ambon can be unpredictable, and travel times may vary. While local villagers will attempt to attract the sacred eels from their hiding places, sightings cannot be guaranteed, as the eels do not always emerge.
