Experience Ambon from a unique local perspective as you explore the city by traditional becak (pedicab), a classic mode of transportation that offers an intimate glimpse into daily life. Begin with a ride to a bustling local market, where vendors sell tropical fruits, fresh herbs, spices, and everyday essentials, providing a colorful introduction to the culture of the Spice Islands.
Continue to the impressive World Peace Gong, a symbol of international harmony, before taking a short walk through Pattimura Park. Here, you'll discover monuments honoring Ambon's beloved national hero, Kapitan Pattimura, as well as artistic tributes to the city's designation by UNESCO as a City of Music. Your journey then leads through the lively Mardika district to Josef Kam Church, built on the burial site of the Dutch missionary who served as Maluku's sole priest during the early 19th century.
Conclude your adventure at a local café, where you'll enjoy traditional coffee, tea, and local cakes while soaking in the atmosphere before returning to the harbor and your awaiting ship.
Please Note:
This tour features travel by traditional becak (pedicab), with one guest per pedicab. Pedicabs are an authentic local form of transportation and may be less comfortable than modern vehicles, with limited seating space and occasionally bumpy road conditions. Guests should be comfortable with moderate activity, including short walks at various stops and boarding and exiting the pedicab multiple times. City streets and markets can be busy, crowded, and noisy, offering an authentic local experience that may be overwhelming for guests sensitive to traffic or large crowds. Restroom facilities are available during the tour but are very basic in nature. Ambon's climate is typically hot and humid; lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses are recommended. Guests are encouraged to stay hydrated, and bottled water is provided during the excursion.
