Thrills abound on this tour that offers a personal, small-group glacier adventure by helicopter and airboat in the untouched, remote area of the Taku Glacier and Taku River.
Hop aboard a shuttle van for a ride through the city of Juneau to the airport located in the Mendenhall Valley. Board a helicopter for a flight over Juneau, the Tongass National Forest, the Juneau Ice Field, Gastineau Channel, and the Taku River — stunning scenery all around.
The helicopter lands on the deck at Taku Point. Friendly staff will greet you and give you a life jacket and hearing protection. You'll hear a safety briefing about the airboat, as well as plenty of interesting local history. Snap some pictures of the pristine Taku River basin and Taku Glacier spread out before you.
Descend the 50-foot ramp to the dock below and board a waiting, covered airboat. The airboat skipper will help you board, and your adventure continues by river. Seated comfortably with open sides for the best possible views and photo opportunities, you'll cruise the five-mile face of Taku Glacier — the only advancing glacier in the Juneau Ice Field. You'll come within arm's length of the ice and gain an understanding of the immense size of the glacier's water level. Take brilliant photos and enjoy a talk about the glacier and the river basin it has carved.
Back at Taku Point, you'll leave the airboat to rejoin the helicopter that will take you up to the top of Taku Glacier for a glacier landing. Step out of the helicopter and set foot on the amazing 4,500-foot-thick ice. You'll have time for more photos, and your pilot offers details about the Ice Field and facts specific to the Taku Glacier.
The helicopter will return you to the airport in Juneau with a van transfer back to the pier.
Please note: Minimum age is 7 years. This tour can be canceled without penalty on the day your voyage commences; cancellations thereafter are non-refundable. Duration is approximately two hours from lift-off at the heliport to return to the helicopter base. Terrain includes a marine ramp from the pier to the airboat, which can be steep. Guests weighing 250 lbs or more (fully clothed) pay an additional surcharge over the published fare directly to the tour operator just prior to the flight. Every guest is weighed at check-in. The tour operator endeavors to be discreet, but individual circumstances may not allow for complete privacy. The pilot alone decides if weather conditions are suitable for flightseeing. If the flight is canceled due to weather conditions, you will receive a full refund. The pilot decides where each guest sits based on weight and balance requirements; parties may be separated. Mobility devices of any kind cannot be brought onto the aircraft. Bags cannot be taken on the flight; a secure location is provided for storing personal items. iPads, iPad minis, tablets, drones, and selfie sticks or other extendable items are not permitted. For optimal photography and views, wear darker-colored clothing to reduce window reflections. Oxygen for personal use is allowed but must be in the form of an FAA-approved portable oxygen concentrator that can be secured to the user's body.
