Japan's cultural heritage and natural beauty come to life on this excursion that features a duo of attractions.
Begin with a motorcoach panoramic drive to Usa City, where you'll discover the historic Usa Jingu Shrine — a National Treasure. Built in the 19th century in the characteristic Hachiman style, the shrine features two parallel structures with interconnected gabled roofs. Marvel at the architecture that is considered to be the prototype of more than 40,000 Hachimangu Shrines across Japan.
Then, visit the Ajimu Budoshu Kobo (Ajimu Winery). Ajimu is the most famous wine-producing area in Kyushu — it makes use of its topography and microclimate, which are characterized by a misty basin. Stroll among the vineyards, surrounded by tranquil nature and mountains, and take a tour of the winery. Purchase wines only available here, if you wish.
Before returning to the port, you will stop at one of Beppu's famous springs. Intended for viewing rather than bathing, the Boiling Hell Hot Springs feature the worst possible name but deliver a very pleasant experience. The water is a beautiful cobalt blue shade, and the formation boasts a little foot spa. Dip your feet in for a few heavenly minutes.
Please note:
Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, flagstones, inclines, gravel, grass, and many steps. If you wish to take a foot spa, bring a towel. Bring local currency or credit cards, as most vendors do not accept US dollars. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour sequence may vary.
