Visit Kek Lok Si Temple — a grand and spiritually significant Buddhist temple complex in Penang. Also known as the Temple of Supreme Bliss, it sits atop Penang Hill and is the largest Chinese Buddhist temple in Malaysia.
Inside, discover several large, inspiring halls for assembly and prayer. Magnificent statues of Buddha, various Bodhisattvas, and Chinese gods are venerated here. The Seven Tier Pagoda incorporates Chinese, Thai and Burmese architecture into a harmonious whole.
Outside, the Liberation Pond is a symbolic and tranquil place where devotees release turtles as an act of merit-making. This liberation of living beings reflects the temple's commitment to both spiritual practices and compassion for all forms of life.
On the stairway roof, a multitude of shops sell souvenirs and other mostly secular commodities.
A famous Swiss-made funicular tram whisks you to the top of Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera). A mosque and a Hindu temple crown the summit, and the lookout offers a magnificent panoramic view of Georgetown, the mainland, and the Penang Bridge.
Please note: You must remove your shoes to enter the temple(s).
