Catch a glimpse of Cartagena's diverse history and culture on this easy, fun half-day tour. Your friendly local guide will fill you in on the passing sights with expert narration on a panoramic drive past the San Felipe Fortress and the Old Town en route to the Caribbean School of Jewelry.
Approved by the Colombian Education Ministry, this facility offers a fantastic learning experience, as the instructors provide you with a workspace and all the tools you need to learn how to create a piece of jewelry out of .925 sterling silver and emeralds. Watch demonstrations, listen to instructions, and enjoy a hands-on class during your two-hour lesson. You will create a silver ring, a pendant, a pair of earrings, or a bracelet chain.
Continue to the Emerald Museum. Watch a video about Colombian emeralds, including how they are mined and cut. This rare and mysterious stone has been sought after for centuries as a symbol of good health, truth and fidelity. Oddly, the Spanish Crown Jewels boast few emeralds; however, the Crown Jewels of Persia (Iran) contain the world's most exquisite collection of fine emerald jewelry. Visit the jewelry shop where you can browse and shop for world-famous Colombian emeralds if you wish.
