Venture through more than 5,000 years of history on this full-day excursion that visits the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Designed to maximize your time in Cairo, the adventure starts from the port in Alexandria with a three-hour journey to one of the Wonders of the Ancient World. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you will tour will start in Giza and illuminate the massive, mysterious pyramids built for the pharaohs of the fourth dynasty: Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus. Each pyramid required more than two million limestone blocks weighing approximately two tons each, quarried and transported from the surrounding hills. The Cheops Pyramid alone covers 13 acres of land. Nearby, the Sphinx, with the body of a reclining lion and a human head, guards the necropolis and its secrets.
Your tour also visits the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, home to the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world. With 107 exhibition halls, the museum houses more than 120,000 objects including mummies of the pharaohs, sarcophagi, Karnak sculptures and gold-encrusted treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamen.
Your day in Cairo includes an international buffet lunch at a leading hotel, as well as free time to browse for souvenirs at a local shop (time permitting) before returning to the port.
Please note:
Wear comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes. Bring sunscreen and a hat. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, and inside any of the Giza Pyramids. A visit to the Mycerinos Pyramid from inside is included but is not recommended for guests with heart or breathing problems, high blood pressure, difficulty walking, or claustrophobia. The Royal Mummies room at the Egyptian Museum is not included in the tour price but is available for an additional 20.00 USD. Due to site regulations and preservation considerations, no service animals are allowed at the Pyramids. There are already many stray dogs in the area which may lead to potential conflicts. At the Museum, service animals are restricted by the management.
