Visit Arkas Art Bornova, one of the most beautiful buildings of its time and home to the famous Arkas Carpet Collection, which has been brought together over a period of more than 30 years and has become one of the most significant carpet collections in the world, bringing together rare examples of Anatolian Carpets of the Classical Period, Anatolian Tribal Carpets, Ottoman Palace Carpets and Northern European tapestries.
Next is the Arkas Maritime History Center located in the mansion where the Arkas family used to live.The building, one of the glamorous examples of Levantine mansions in Izmir, was built in the 19th century. The exhibiton sheds light on maritime history in the Mediterranean with 89 models of ships, 126 pieces of ship antiques and other nautical pieces.
Following a 40 min drive visit the Kostem Olive Oil Museum, the largest of it’s kind in the world. You will learn about the history of olives and olive oil, and olive crushing systems used throughout history in Anatolia. Olives plays a prominent part of life in this part of the world. Sample some of the world’s best olive oil foloowed by a snack of local specialities and a chilled glass of wine.
