Ljubljana, the outstandingly beautiful capital of Slovenia, is located in the very heart of the country. Its rich history dates from Roman times to the present day. A 90-minute scenic drive from the port in Koper brings you to Ljubljana, which is nestled in a basin between the Karst and alpine regions of Slovenia. Don't be fooled by the outer ring of this little city, which grew up during the era of Soviet-style architecture, for it actually conceals a true national treasure — Ljubljana's absolutely beautiful Baroque-style Old Town.
The Old Town is comprised of a charming collection of houses, shops, and businesses that meander along the banks of the Ljubljanica River, which in turn is crisscrossed by a series of quaint pedestrian bridges and flanked by wide, tree-lined walkways.
Follow your guide on a walking tour that leads you past the Town Hall and the stunning Robba's Fountain — considered the city's soul during the Middle Ages. See the open-air market and enjoy a riverboat cruise for a different perspective. You will pass the Dragon Bridge, the Cobblers' Bridge, magnificent Art Nouveau mansions, and some of the masterpieces designed by world-renowned architect Joze Plecnik. After your river cruise, sit down to a lunch of local delicacies at a popular Slovenian restaurant, followed by some free time to browse in the shops in the city center. At the conclusion of your visit, reboard the motorcoach for the return drive to the pier.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
