Kaikoura is the best place in New Zealand to swim with the most acrobatic of all dolphin species — the dusky dolphin. The dusky dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obscurus) is so named for its dark gray coloring. Here in the waters of Kaikoura, these wild animals often choose to stop and engage with swimmers. They are among the most interactive dolphin species in the world, and this chance to encounter them is absolutely extraordinary.
The grace, beauty and curiosity of these sociable and acrobatic dolphins will take your breath away. It can truly be described as a life-changing experience; you will leave Kaikoura with a renewed sense of awe for the natural environment. For those not wanting to swim with the dolphins, here's a chance to simply watch these acrobatic, energetic dolphins at play.
The boat is specifically built with optimum viewing in mind. The upper decks enable you to capture perfect pictures.
Please note: Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Tour operates rain or shine, but may be cancelled by the operator in the event of extreme weather or unsuitable conditions. Minimum age is 8 years. The dolphins are wild animals and are free to come and go as they please; wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
