Experience some of the incredibly special atmosphere of Stewart Island on a panoramic drive along most of its 12 miles of road. Designed with Seabourn guests in mind, this orientation tour offers an insight into New Zealand's southernmost community -- home to approximately 300 residents, combining comfort, flexibility and local authenticity.
From the tender into Halfmoon Bay Wharf, begin your tour in the tiny town of Oban, where commerce consists of a general store, a hotel, and a handful of cafés provide a glimpse into the island’s character.
You'll drive to Lee Bay via the stunning white-sand beaches of Butterfield and Horseshoe Bays. The beaches look as if they belong in the Caribbean; not in an outpost whose proximity to Antarctica is unmistakable.
Take in the coastal views from Observation Point before returning to Halfmoon Bay Wharf. Guests are welcome to linger in Oban and explore at leisure, with the return to the ship via tender at their convenience – allowing for a truly personalized and relaxed experience.
Please note:
Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Antarctic winds and sudden showers can make for cool temperatures on Stewart Island, regardless of the season.
