Holyhead is the largest town in Anglesey and you will set out from here to visit the beautiful walled town and castle of Caernarfon.
Caernarfon Castle was built by Edward I in the 13th century as part of his "Iron Ring" designed to contain the Welsh. It was used as both a seat of government and a Royal palace. The unique polygonal towers of the castle were supposed to evoke the city of Constantinople and the imperial power of Byzantium, creating the image of a dominant conqueror. Now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Caernarfon is one of the world's greatest medieval castles and its sheer scale and commanding presence make for an impenetrable fortress, even today.
After visiting Caernarfon Castle, return to the ship at Holyhead via the same route as the outward journey, with sublime views of the beautiful Anglesea countryside.
