The capital city of East Java and the island’s second-largest city after Jakarta, Surabaya is your gateway to the historical intrigue of old Java.
Your first stop will be at the 77 acre. Jagat Kirana Temple built in 1968, considered to be the second largest Hindu Temple in East Java. This temple is dedicated to the singular God of Hindu called Ida Sanghyang Widi with manifestations of Brahma, Wishnu and Ciwa. There are various areas in the complex to admire such as: Mandala Utama (the main building), Mandala Madya (Middle building) and Mandala Nista.
Next, you’ll see the Submarine Monument—a real KRI Pasopati 410-type Whiskey-Class Russian submarine, used in 1952 by the Indonesian Navy. This is a reminder of the fragile alliances forged throughout Asia in the post-war era. Don’t miss the riotous color and aromas of the Kayoon Flower Garden Market, located on the western bank of the Kayoon River. Vendors here offer fresh forsythias, dried flowers, artificial gardens, beautiful orchids and tropical decorative blossoms.
A bit of ancient history waits at the Joko Dolog Statue. Legend holds that it was erected in 1289 to honor King Kertanegara of the Singosari Dynasty.
Step inside the earliest Dutch Government building in Surabaya for a warm Javanese welcome by the Mayor of Surabaya. Watch a traditional Javanese dance and sample traditional refreshments, including Javanese cakes and beverages. Enjoy brief tour of this heritage building.
