Dr Simon Woodward is a world heritage industry consultant and educator, with expertise in policy review, strategy development and destination development.  He has spent over 20 years working as a consultant for a number of heritage companies. His background has focused on the environmental, economic and social impacts of tourism and community involvement in sustainable heritage. Simon routinely speaks at international conferences on these and other heritage related topics.

Simon’s current interests include the commodification by tourism of military and conflict heritage sites; community involvement in protecting and managing heritage and visitor engagement with World Heritage values. In addition to his teaching responsibilities and his consultancy work, Simon sits on the ICOMOS International Cultural Tourism Committees, is a Trustee of the Landscape Research Centre and a Board Member of The Experience Community (a charity promoting access to heritage sites for people with disabilities) and works with the National Trust.

Simon’s humorous and poignant presentations on the role and value of heritage will focus on Scotland as he examines the wonders of protecting and promoting UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
