DAY THREE After breakfast, fly from Lima to Cuzco to survey the Baroque cathedral, the Convent of Santo Domingo, including the finest remaining example of Inca masonry, and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Meals: B/L/D

DAY FOUR After breakfast, go to a Quechua-speaking rural village to see the families’ wood-fired kitchens, hand-weaving and farming techniques, and take part in a traditional blessing of fields and animals. Spend the evening at leisure. Meals: B/L/D

DAY FIVE Visit the Inca Fortress at Ollantaytambo, then take the Hiram Bingham Train between snowcapped peaks to Machu Picchu, for a walking tour of the site interpreted by an expert archaeologist guide. Meals: B/L/D
