At the very top of Iceland, Siglufjörður is a charming town nestled next to a small fjord of the same name. It draws a large part of its beauty from the high mountains which imposingly surround the town -- but relatively few visitors ever think of hiking up here.

Today is a great opportunity to put on your hiking boots (or sturdy walking shoes) and step out to enjoy Siglufjörður's nature and history with a passionate guide. (S)he has a wealth of local knowledge to share -- folk stories, historical events and places, and the ancient walking trails over the mountains between farms and villages. You may be surprised to hear about the hidden gems of folklore and documented history that lurk in these mountains, and the views are suitably mind-blowing.

Please note: Hike is approximately two miles (3 - 3½ km) with a steady incline over 2¾ hours. The guides are able to tailor trips to guests' interests, taking different routes pointing out different highlights for birdwatchers, archeologists, saga aficionados or photographers. This is an active tour. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf.
