Ancient Java & the Tlogo Agro Highlands
Information is not currently available.
Approximately 7½ hours
Leave Semarang for a one-hour drive to Tlogo Agro Plantation, located around 1,300 feet above sea level with average temperatures between 60 and 75 degrees. The plantation was founded in 1856. Enjoy the cool, fresh air of Tlogo Agro Highland and see the various tropical plants grown here, such as coffee, rubber, mango, banana, avocado, clove, cocoa and guava. Learn about the coffee-making process, from bean to powder, using old machinery.
Enjoy traditional live Javanese gamelan music; then, you'll continue to Tuntang Station and board an antique train for a ride past beautiful tropical scenery.
Cross the legendary swamp of Rawapening en route to historical city of Ambarawa. Here, you will visit the Antique Train Museum -- an introduction to colonial-era locomotives. You'll take a break at the Joglo Hill Resort -- a traditional-style tropical garden oasis, where the villas are from Joglo and there are traditional Javanese buildings collected from all over the island of Java. You are invited to inspect the villa owner's collection of antiques.
Sit down to a delightful lunch in the restaurant garden, and feel free to enjoy a swim in the pool. En route back to Semarang, you will also see Lawang Sewu -- a remarkable building dating from Java's Dutch colonial period. Along with a multitude of beautiful stained-glass windows, the structure is rumored to have one thousand doors.
Please note: Wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes and light clothing, including long pants. Wear a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.
