Discover the cultural heart and spiritual soul of Hirosaki on this fulfilling excursion that seamlessly blends ancient traditions with exquisite culinary artistry.
Your journey begins at the foot of the majestic Mount Iwaki at Iwakisan Shrine, an ancient sanctuary boasting over 1,200 years of history, where you can walk along a towering cedar-lined approach and marvel at the magnificent, intricately carved main hall and gate designated as Important Cultural Properties. Next, visit the Neputa Village to marvel at the jaw-dropping festival floats used during Hirosaki's celebrated Nebuta Matsuri. Made of painted washi paper on wooden frames, these elaborately decorated floats feature mythological warriors on one side and beautiful women on the other, bringing the region's vibrant summer traditions to life alongside a live musical performance.
For lunch, indulge in a gourmet dining experience at a renowned local restaurant that helped put Hirosaki on the map as a premier culinary destination. Savor a western full-course meal creatively centered around Aomori’s premium apples that delights all your senses. Conclude your day with a peaceful stroll through Zenringai, a unique district lined with 33 Zen temples originally gathered by the samurai clan to protect the castle, leading you to Choshoji Temple, the historic family temple of the Tsugaru lords. Its imposing Sanmon Gate and serene precinct offer a moment of quiet contemplation before your return to port with wonderful memories.
