Travel into the heart of Tasmania's north to the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, a magnificent wilderness of pristine forest and glacial lakes.
The route is via Sheffield, the Town of Murals, where local artists have painted stories of the Kentish district on the old buildings. Enjoy a short stop here to see the colorful murals and a chance to purchase a refreshment or pastry from the local baker (at your own expense).
Continue up the winding road and into the National Park — Tasmania's ultimate destination, which, while popular, still retains its isolated, wild character. The National Park Visitor Center, located just inside the park entrance, houses informative displays and an art gallery.
Take an easy stroll along the boardwalk, which meanders through a patch of cool temperate rainforest. If the weather is fine, you'll be rewarded with views of the beautiful Pencil Pine Falls.
A delicious lunch or afternoon tea is served at a local lodge.
Next up, a visit to Dove Lake, dominated by its backdrop of the famous Cradle Mountain. On a clear day, the views are breathtaking and make for great photo opportunities. Relax and enjoy the vistas while taking in the scents and sounds of the mountain, or take a brisk stroll along the boardwalk that circles the lake.
