Sydney's Taronga Zoo is the nation's leading zoological garden, featuring Australia's finest collection of native animals and a diverse collection of exotic species. What makes Taronga really special is its location — it is set on an elevated stretch of land along a prime stretch of waterfront. This is surely one of the most beautiful vantage points on Sydney Harbour, overlooking Sydney Cove, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
Start your tour of the zoo from the top entrance, with paths zigzagging downhill among the animal enclosures. Many of the zoo's inhabitants can boast housing with the finest views in Sydney. Each bend in the path opens to a different vista of the horizon.
Purchase lunch at your own expense while at Taronga Zoo. A local guide will be with you for the day to suggest areas to visit and provide assistance.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
