Covering the city districts of Södermalm, Gamla Stan, Norrmalm, Östermalm and Djurgården, each with its own special character, your tour begins with a drive up to Fjällgatan for a panoramic view of the city.
Drive west along Söder Mälarstrand and across the Western Bridge spanning Riddarfjärden, with extensive views of the city skyline.
Notice the three crowns atop the imposing City Hall, beautifully situated by the shores of the Lake Mälaren. This impressive building was inaugurated in 1923 after 12 years of work by the combined elite of Swedish construction workers, sculptors, artists and craftsmen. It is renowned for its architecture, murals, mosaics and for being the site for the annual Nobel Prize banquet. Experience the grandeur and spaciousness of the impressive Blue Hall and Golden Chamber and enjoy the beautiful view from the garden.
Continue past the Royal Dramatic Theatre along Strandvägen to the island of Djurgården, regarded as Stockholm's amusement and recreation center. The great parklands and museums here include the Skansen Open-Air Museum and the Vasa Museum, housing the Swedish warship Vasa. Visit the Vasa Museum, once considered to be one of the world's largest and most prestigious warships. The museum is built around a 17th-century warship that sank in Stockholm's inner harbor on her maiden voyage in 1628. Salvaged in 1961 and today restored to much or its former glory, the Vasa today represents an authentic piece of living history.
Continue through the Diplomat areas and through Östermalm -- a fashionable neighborhood of stately apartment buildings and modern shopping and business areas. Pass the Royal Opera and the Parliament building before reaching Stockholm's oldest quarter, the Old Town. This quaint area of narrow cobblestone streets is dominated by the Royal Palace.
Return to the ship when your tour ends.
Please note: City Hall can be close at short notice for private functions. The terrain is paved sidewalks and some cobblestones with about 60 steps at City Hall. There is an elevator available at the Vasa Museum.
