Travel 1½ hours to Chiloé National Park, located in the Lakes Region on the west coast of Chiloé Island. The park is special because its main vegetation is the Valdivian forest -- a rain forest comprised of beeches and the beautiful, endemic alerce tree (Fitzroya cupressoides). Have a look around at the Visitor Center to acquaint yourself with the habitat and ecosystem here.
Then, stroll the Tepual pathway through a forest of tepu, with a dirt pathway and approximately 90 steps to negotiate. Parts of the path are also covered by a boardwalk.
Enjoy a snack along the way and return to Castro after your stroll through the park.
Please note:
Your guide will do his/her best to speak English, but please keep in mind that the remoteness of the port/ limited tourism infrastructure here is part of the city's charm, and bear with any language difficulties he/she may encounter. Travel time to Chiloé National Park is 90 minutes each way. Guests need to negotiate 90 steps only if they wish to visit the viewing platform, otherwise, steps to negotiate are only 15 and not in a row.
