Begin your experience with a short walk to the nearby local plantations. Here, you'll observe seasonal fruit and yam crops and learn about traditional planting and harvesting techniques through live demonstrations. You’ll also have the opportunity to harvest some produce, which will be enjoyed later in the tour.
Returning to the main tent area, you'll visit a series of cultural stations presented by the Sai Pe Women's Group. These stations offer demonstrations of traditional Tongan life, including:
· Kava Ceremony: Learn the cultural significance of this ceremonial drink, traditionally used to mark friendship and respect.
· Traditional Herbal Medicine: Discover how local plants are used to create remedies that have been passed down through generations.
· Coconut Tree Demonstration: See the many uses of the coconut tree, from making coconut cream and oil to weaving hats and fans. Enjoy a fresh drink of coconut water during the demonstration.
· Natural Beauty Products: Explore locally made items such as oils and balms created from natural ingredients. Some products are available for purchase.
· Tapa Cloth Making & Mat Weaving: Watch as local women demonstrate the traditional techniques used to produce Tongan attire and mats from natural fibers.
· Traditional Cuisine & Dessert: Learn how food is prepared in a traditional earth oven (umu), and enjoy a sampling of local dishes and fruit-based desserts, including the fruits you harvested earlier in the tour.
This tour provides an authentic look at daily life in Tonga and the enduring cultural traditions of its people.
