Exciting, exhilarating, memorable -- welcome to Expedition Experiences by Seabourn. Zodiac, kayaking or hiking activities enable you to experience the wonders of nature up close; in-depth cultural, ethnographic and archaeological discoveries connect you to the human and natural history of Seabourn's world. Each Expedition is expertly planned, professionally operated, and escorted by skilled expedition staff.
Join this spectacular hiking adventure that immerses you in the remote beauty of Southeast Alaska where you will be surrounded with amazing mountain, glacier and ocean views. Transfer from the pier in Haines to Letnikof Cove and step into a Zodiac for a 10- to 20-minute ride across Chilkat Inlet to Glacier Point. On this exciting zodiac ride you will have views of both Davidson and Rainbow glaciers and the surrounding peaks such as Mount Krause. After a wet landing in ankle-deep water (rubber boots provided), put on your hiking boots and follow your local guides along the coastal plain before venturing into the Alaska temperate rainforest. The Ventures Team and a local specialist guide will interpret the variety of fauna and flora you see along the way on this remote temperate rainforest hike. The hike turns around at the edge of the outwash plain of Davidson Glacier, this plain formed of glaciofluvial deposits shows the amazing forces of time and pressure as the glacier has receded over time.
Please note: Melt and rain conditions may impact how far the hike can progress. Minimum age is 8 years. Maximum weight is 300 lbs (136 kg). Tour duration may vary depending on group ability. This is a very beautiful but strenuous hike and requires endurance and flexibility and should only be attempted only by those who are prepared for hours of walking on primitive game trails. Not suitable for guests with hip or knee conditions. Total distance covered is 5 miles (8 km) and the elevation gain is approximately 328 feet (100m.) Approximate walking time is three hours but may vary depending on group ability. Bring bottled water from the ship. Bring an extra pair of thick socks. Trekking poles and a snack lunch are provided. Shoe size(s) must be supplied so that rubber boots can be provided for the wet landing at Glacier Point. Please advise any special dietary requirements. Tour departs from and returns to the ship. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer; bring gloves, a scarf and a warm hat. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Wear sunglasses and biodegradable sunscreen; bring insect repellent. Bring binoculars. There are steps to negotiate when (dis)embarking the Zodiac, with assistance offered. Tour generally operates rain or shine but may be canceled in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
