Visit Lady Franklin Island by Zodiac with the Expedition team. This area is home to a variety of nesting birds and to Atlantic walruses and seals, and features some of the oldest rock on Earth.
We will explore from the water, as the island is zealously guarded by steep cliffs — vertical runs of sheer beauty. Barren, rocky and exposed to the full wrath of the weather, Lady Franklin Island is a scenic gem. Atlantic puffins and even the rare Sabine's gull are sometimes spotted here. Prime nesting time is earlier than our visit, but straggler seabirds reward the curious.
Historians will note that the island, named by Arctic explorer Charles Francis Hall, tips its hat to British Royal Navy explorer Sir John Franklin, who vanished while searching for the fabled Northwest Passage.
Please note: Included Expeditions cannot be booked in advance. The ship's Expedition team will communicate finalized content and departure information. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Life jackets are provided and must be worn. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
