Join the Expedition team in the Zodiacs for a cruise past the coastal cliffs of Papey. Once the site of a remote monastic community, today's Papey is the domain of puffins, razorbills, kittiwakes, guillemots, and eiders who come here to breed and brood.
For years, hardy farmers grew potatoes, tended sheep, harvested Eider down, and fished for a living. The Expeditions team explains the challenges of daily life at this harsh latitude.
All that remains now is a lighthouse, a church and a handful of dilapidated buildings, some stone foundations, and a colony of well-adjusted Atlantic puffins clinging tenaciously to a windswept landscape.
Please note: Included Expeditions cannot be booked in advance. The ship's Expedition team will communicate finalized content and departure information. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Life jackets are provided and must be worn. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
