Welcome to Skagafjordur, Iceland's most prosperous agricultural region, where horses outnumber people in population!
Depart the lovely town of Saudarkrokur and head to Skagafjordur Heritage Museum Glaumbaer. Glaumbaer is an old turf farmhouse that offers an exhibition that focuses on rural life in 18th and 19th century Iceland. Built of turf, stones and timber, the buildings vary in age, although the most recent addition was built in the late 1800’s. In 1947, the farmhouse was repaired and declared a conserved site, or right after the last inhabitants moved out.
Continuing the tour, we drive past Varmahlíð village and head towards Hrímnishöll Horsefarm in Varmalækur. Meet the Icelandic horse and enjoy approximately 45 minutes horse show where you will get historical presentation of the Icelandic horse and its importance to past and present Iceland.
From Hrímnishöll, we take a short drive to Bakkaflöt and enjoy traditional Icelandic meat soup with fresh homemade bread. Our final stop will be at the beautiful Reykjafoss Waterfall before we take a scenic drive back to the pier.
